John Gray, Mayor of Greenland Arkansas, announced that he is seeking the nomination of the Green Party of Arkansas for the office of U S Senator from Arkansas in 2010. Greenland is located just south of Fayetteville. John Gray is 66 years old and was elected to a four year term as mayor of Greenland in November of 2008. John Gray packs some brain power as well as his political experience in Greenland. He has bachelor’s degrees in physics and math from the University of Arkansas, and a master’s degree in physics, also from the University of Arkansas. John’s campaign is planning to stress working person’s issues, particularly the removal of the “free trade” agreements, such as NAFTA and GATT, and the return of jobs to America. John is also strongly in favor of Medicare for everyone, and Food Safety.
John is also a member of a Fayetteville writer’s group called the “Rapid Responders”. The Responders do just that, they respond with letters to the editors of the local papers whenever they see ridiculous right wing rants in the newspapers – either in the letters section or in editorials. Some of the RR’s are helping John’s campaign. John announced in two cities in Arkansas on Labor Day, as a fitting day to announce his pro-labor positions.
John Gray Protests Lincoln's Vote Against Single Payer
On Thursday, October 1, 2009, John Gray and about 35 other disgruntled Arkansans assembled on the street in front of Senator Lincoln’s Fayetteville office to protest against Lincoln’s vote against the single payer health plan in the Senate Finance Committee. The protest was organized by Move-On, a liberal Democratic PAC. Most of the attendees were supportive of the Green Party’s support for the Single Payer option – what some might call National Health Insurance. John Gray had several strong supporters there who promised to help his campaign. Some of the protesters were carrying signs that had been made in advance by Move On that read “Support Single Payer – Vote Democratic”. Given that the majority of Arkansas’s Democrats do not support the single payer option, the message must have been confusing to passing motorists.
