Green Candidates in District Three Speak to Public

On Monday, September 15, 2008 at the Reynolds Center at 4:00 pm, on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville, candidates for Congress Rebekah Kennedy and Abel Tomlinson addressed the public and the press.  The event was attended by at least fifty students and the media, and was videotaped for broadcast on Fayetteville Community Access Television, and DVD’s are being made to be distributed to the media all around the state for free.  The coverage by the press was good, with KNWA TV reporting, and written stories in the Northwest Arkansas Times, The Springdale Morning News, and the Traveler, the University of Arkansas student newspaper.  Our candidates did a good job of showing the differences between Green politics and the usual conservative junk we usually hear from Arkansas politicians.  Abel spoke not only about the war in Iraq but also about the deepening financial and economic crises facing the nation at this time.  Rebekah spoke about poverty in Arkansas and the need for the government in Washington to do something to help the poor and also about the need for health care reform in America.

Ralph Nader at UAF Campus

Student leaders of the Campus Greens at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville hosted a speaking event on campus September 17.  The surprise appearance had only been announced two days before.  The Campus Greens were asked by a Nader for President organizer to host the event, and the Campus Greens agreed.  Nader is not the Green Party candidate – our candidate is Cynthia McKinney.  It was made plain to the crowd and to the media that Nader is not the Green Party candidate, and McKinney flyers and bumper stickers were passed out to the crowd.  Nader spoke about the control of our government by corporations and the money lobbyists and about his reasons for becoming an activist.  Abel Tomlinson also spoke to the crowd which was enthusiastic about the GPA running candidates for office this year.  Nader even said “it looks like Arkansas has become a hot bed of Green Party activity!”
